A garage door can be a really useful part of your everyday life. It can keep your car out of the elements and allow you extra storage space for things like tools and such to be easily taken outside. However, when it fails to work properly a garage door can be more frustrating than anything. In the worst case scenario, this leaves your car trapped inside your garage, which can completely derail your normal lifestyle. So, if your garage door is showing any of these signs, you might want to look into repairing it.

Slow Response Time

Your garage door should be quite snappy when it comes to responding to your commands, opening shortly after you've pressed the button. So, if you notice that your door seems sluggish to respond or if it stutters while opening you probably have a problem on your hands. For this problem there could be a hitch in the door's system or your opener could simply be dying. Ignoring this as a minor inconvenience isn't a good idea either, as it'll only get worse with time. Either way, you'll need to call a professional to take a look at it to determine the specific problem.

Your Door Is Making A Lot Of Noise

While garage doors by nature are quite loud, especially with older models, you should generally be accustomed to its normal sound. So, if your garage door is making noises that sounds like its struggling to operate then something on it is probably going to break soon. Unfortunately, its hard to troubleshoot which individual part is causing the noise, but a trained professional should be able to pinpoint it no problem. Otherwise, if you don't, eventually whatever part is causing the problem will eventually fail, keeping your garage door stuck open or shut.

The Panels On The Door Are Warped

Its not unusual for the panels on the garage door to begin to bend out of shape after a while, after all the opening process puts a lot of stress on the panels themselves. This of course can make your garage door look rather unsightly, but it is a much bigger problem than that. With continued warping eventually the panels will get stuck in the opening mechanism, causing undue strain to other parts of the system. Luckily, an expert should be able to fix the panels with ease, allowing the system to continue to operate smoothly again.

So, if you notice any of these warning signs you should act fast before the door stops working altogether. After all, no one wants to wake up and find themselves late for work because their car can't leave the house.
